Ian Fleming is born. He will become a famous English writer and invent the James Bond character.

The first long-distance radio message is sent from the Eiffel Tower (Paris, Europe).

Robert Baden-Powell begins the Boy Scout movement which will spread over the entire globe within the next decades.

The very first intercontinental car race is born, leading from New York to Paris.

Frenchman Henri Farman pilots the first passenger flight.

Mother's Day is observed for the first time (West Virginia).

In Siberia, Russia, a large meteoroid causes a 10-15 megatons TNT explosion (1, 000 times Hiroshima the bomb).

Robert Peary starts his famous Arctic exploration, he will be the first man to reach the North Pole.

A new US law department is founded, it will later become well known as the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation).

Thomas Selfridge is the first person to die in an aeroplane crash. The pilot was Orville Wright who was also severely injured.

Henry Ford produces his first Model T automobile. It's the first car to feature a steering wheel on the left.

Famous western bandits Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid are supposedly killed in Bolivia.

Child Emperor Pu Yi ascends the Chinese throne at the age of two.
